Oh my goodness! It is frustrating to discover someone has stolen your ebook and is offering it for a price or even for free. This is copyright infringement. I searched the internet for ways to combat this. I was delighted to discover Yowanda Black’s blog post:  “Ebook Theft: 12 Things You Can Do to Stop Someone from Copying and Selling Your Book.”

Before You Publish or Reprint Your book

  1. Yowanda says to put information at the back of your book with links to your other books.
  2. Put a notice similar to the following paragraph in your new books. “No part of this book may be reproduced in any form or by any electronic or mechanical means, including information storage and retrieval systems, without written permission from the author, except for the use of brief quotations in a book review.”
  3. Put something similar to this at the front of your book: “If you downloaded this as a free PDF file, it may be a stolen copy. Please use legal ways to get ebooks. Downloading these pdfs for free is copyright infringement. Help stop ebook piracy.”

After Your Book Is Published

ATTENTION: USE New BLASTY to help stop piracy of your books. It takes offenders off of Google, Safari, and Firefox search engines.

After I posted this on October 24, 2017, Peggles381 wrote in the comment area and shared about a new service called BLASTY http://www.blasty.co/. It is out of its beta stage now. 

I signed up. BLASTY service searches GOOGLE for illegal downloads of your copyrighted works. It also uses Chrome browser (designed by Google).  It found 34 pirate download pages for one of my books. Somehow, when you choose BLAST inside the Blasty website, it deletes that page from Google search engine.

Do It Yourself – Take Down One Illegal Download Site at a Time

However, there’s another way to do it to report one torrent/illegal download site at a time: Here’s a link to complete a DMCA form (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) to get Google to take down a website that is infringing on your copyright: 

I personally stopped 3 thieves from doing the free downloads of Joan’s Elder Care Guide by confronting the sites offering the free downloads of the pdfs.  The website hosts closed them down, however, there are 8-11 more on other websites. The number seems to keep on growing. If I spend all my time chasing them down, I’ll have less time to write and to illustrate. So, I’ve read these articles to make my plan of ACTION.

The easiest way I’ve found to stop piracy in its tracks is to use Blasty.co. Sign up for Blasty to stop piracy in its tracks. http://www.blasty.co

I don’t have all the answers. I do know that these resources and Peggles345 helped me. I believe they can help you, too.

  4. OMG!!!! I recently noticed that my bomber book is being offered for FREE on a site. I couldn’t find out who authorized it and didn’t know who to contact or what to do about it. Now I do!

    THANK YOU FRIEND FOR THIS POST! I just found out that 131 websites PIRATED e-book Arlie the Alligator and 67 stole We Bought A WWII Bomber. I signed up for BLASTY.com real fast! The yearly fee is equal to the cost of one book/month. Royalties would be less but still… it’s so dishearetning. Because of you and this post, I was able to put a stop to the majority of it.
