“Do What You Love. Go ahead. Do It” by Joan Y. Edwards

Thank you for reading my blog and sharing it with your family and friends. That is a great compliment.

You know how it is when you get down, but you don’t want to be down in the dumps. But there you are. You’re sitting on the bottom step in this putrid place in your life. You pray for help.

“God, please help me find a way out of feeling like this, out of being in this place of defeat.”

Unlike in scripture or the movies, the skies don’t open up and a big voice of God says words of encouragement. However, I do know that if he did he would say this to you and me:

“You are my daughter (son) in whom I am well-pleased.”

He sends other people to be his messenger. In the Bible they were angels. Today they are angels disguised as people without their wings showing. The answers to what you seek may be given to you in little snippets of wisdom. Wisdom from books, wisdom from the actions of other people.

Here are the quotes of people whose words nspired me. After their quotes, I responded with a quote of my own or one from the Bible. Perhaps you can do this, too. Change a quote to meet your personal needs and goals. These words spoke to me and helped me in one of my hours on the bottom rung in a dungeon filled with darkness in my life. Perhaps they’ll help you, too.

  1. “Tough times never last, but tough people do.” ― Robert Schuller

  2. “You are a tough person. You will get through this.” ― Joan Y. Edwards
  3. “Ask the right questions. Don’t ask why you can’t do something. Ask how you can do it.”― Tony Robbins

  4. “Ask questions. Don’t give up until you get the answers.”  ― Joan Y. Edwards
  5. “Don’t say to yourself, ‘I have to go to work;’ say, ‘I get to go to work.'” ― Regina Brett

  6. “Changing your words changes your focus. Use words that put you in a positive frame of mind. Choose words that empower your spirit and make you feel worthwhile and capable of accomplishing your dreams.. ― Joan Y. Edwards
  7. “People who don’t take risks generally make about two big mistakes a year. People who do take risks generally make about two big mistakes a year.” ― Peter F. Drucker

  8. “Take a chance on you and your dreams. You are more than worth it.” ― Joan Y. Edwards
  9. “Most misunderstandings in the world could be avoided if people would simply take the time to ask, “What else could this mean?” ― Shannon L. Alder

  10. Philippians 4:7. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
  11. “You can’t outwit fate by trying to stand on the sidelines and place little side bets about the outcome of life. Either you wade in and risk everything to play the game, or you don’t play at all. And if you don’t play, you can’t win.” ― Judith McNaught

  12. “Do what you love. Take action toward your dreams. Give it all you’ve got.” ― Joan Y. Edwards
  13. 2 Corinthians 9:8 “Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work.”

  14. “You have an abundance of everything that you need.” ― Joan Y. Edwards
  15. When you forgive, you in no way change the past – but you sure do change the future.  ― Bernard Meltzer

  16. “Forgiveness frees us of hatred. Forgiveness is healing in body and spirit for the one forgiving and for the one forgiven.”  ― Joan Y. Edwards
  17. Peace is not absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means. ―Ronald Reagan

  18. Loving and forgiving myself, even in my weakest, most human moments, helps me to be at peace with others. ― Joan Y. Edwards

I hope that reading these quotes gives you an idea of words to implant into your spirit and helps you blossom with the creation of what only you and God could create together. A story, an illustration, a painting, a garden, a building, an organization. God will help you! He says, “Ask and you shall receive. Believe and it will be given unto you.” so do what you love. Go ahead. Do it.

  2. I needed these right now! Thank you! I’ve been feeling insecure about this writing gig. Will I make it? Am I good enough? All those typical fears. These quotes helped immensely. Here are a few of my favorites…

“If you hear a voice within you say, ‘You cannot paint,’ then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.”
    -Vincent van Gogh

“It’s never too late to be what you might have been” ~ George Eliot

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.” ~Bill Cosby (well, I can’t help that it’s him… It’s still a good quote… Lol)
