“10 Ways to Put a Positive Spin on Your Emotions and Thoughts” by Joan Y. Edwards

“Thoughts Become Things… Choose The Good Ones!”
― Mike Dooley

Your thoughts control your emotions. Your emotions control your attention. Your attention Interprets the experiences you have every day of your life on a path as negative or positive.

Many times you base your present situation in view of what happened to you in the past. You close the door to new interpretations and may miss many good things in life because of it.

You base your present situation against your goals as either being success or failure. Not as a possibility of being on the path to success not yet achieved.

You give interpretations of things as being bad, when they are not inherently bad. Only in your mind are they bad. Hating the rain and saying it is bad is an example of that.

There is more than one interpretation of most things that happen to you and of words that people say. You interpret the situation according to the emotions and thoughts you’ve been having all day long or from the past.

A.  The doctor gives you a bad report on your health

How do you interpret that?

  1. You knew it was going to be a bad report.
  2. You’re going to die in 3 months like they said.
  3. There’s no way you’re going to get better.
  4. You don’t like to take medications.
  5. You’ll exercise and your health will improve.
  6. ???

B. Your husband brings you flowers when he comes home.

How do you interpret that?

  1. He was being loving and thoughtful.
  2. He was just being nice to cover up something bad he did.
  3. ???

C.  A driver starts to come over in your lane.

How do you interpret that?

  1. The driver is drunk.
  2. The driver is talking on the cell phone.
  3. The driver didn’t see you in his side-view mirror.
  4. The driver has it in for you.
  5. All drivers on the road are bad.
  6. ???

How do you change the emotions and thoughts to a more positive joyful things?

  1. Pray. Talk with God. Tell him your fears. Tell him your dreams. Ask and you shall receive. Believe and it will be given unto you. Ask God to help you look at it in a different more positive way. Look for the good, you will find it.
  2. Love and accept yourself as you are right this moment.

  3. Count your blessings, one by one. Make a list as long as you can make it of all things for which you are thankful. I am thankful for the following:

  • God who made you
  • My family to love you in spite of your flaws
  • An abundance of friends to support and cheer you on
  • An abundance of money
  • An abundance of good health
  • An abundance of food to eat.
  • A warm house in winter; a cool house in summer.
  • A comfortable bed
  • A washer and dryer to keep your clothes clean.
  • Flowers to make your yard pretty.
  • A good, dependable car to get you from place to place
  1. Read aloud affirmations for ten minutes every day:
  • I am calm.
  • I am healthy, wealthy, and wise.
  • I am happy.
  • I have an abundance of money.
  1. Listen to soothing music.
  1. Exercise to music.
  1. Take a long walk

  2. Talk to a friend or family member who will be compassionate about your concerns

  3. Write a letter to yourself about your concerns. Write out options of positive steps you can take.

  4. Watch an inspirational or funny movie.

Start over

  1. Pray. Talk with God. Tell him your fears. Tell him your dreams. Ask and you shall receive. Believe and it will be given unto you.

    • Dear Annie,
Thanks for writing. You’re very welcome. I’m glad you believe this was a most cheery article. If indeed you write a letter to yourself as a Pub Subber and would like to blog as a guest to tell about Pub Subbing, that would be awesome. Everyone needs encouragement, especially me.

    • Dear Kathleen,
Thank you for writing. I am glad that you appreciated being reminded that there is good in everything and everyone. I needed to remind myself of this, too. It is easy to get overwhelmed when troubling thoughts and situations come at you from every direction. It takes intentional focus in looking for the good part, the healing portion that God provides from sources known to you now and other amazing solutions for you to discover in new sources.

      Celebrate you.
